The Emotional Side of Postpartum: Why You Might Not Feel Like Yourself

The Emotional Side of Postpartum: Why You Might Not Feel Like Yourself

After birth, your hormones shift dramatically—and so can your emotions.

Many moms experience the “baby blues” in the first 1–2 weeks:

  • Mood swings
  • Crying spells
  • Feeling overwhelmed

This is normal.

However, if feelings persist or intensify, it may be postpartum depression or anxiety.

Signs to watch for:

  • Persistent sadness or hopelessness
  • Difficulty bonding with your baby
  • Racing thoughts or constant worry
  • Trouble sleeping—even when baby sleeps

You are not alone—and this is not your fault.

Talk to someone you trust. Reach out to your provider. Support is available, and healing is possible.

Taking care of your mental health is just as important as physical recovery.
